I struggled to communicate with my direct managers (CPO/Head of Product) in the past. We spent too much time on pointless discussions and didn’t document updates. When I changed jobs, I implemented this template that other PMs started using. 

Before each 1-on-1 with the direct manager, every PM fills out this template and shares it (so primarily, it's async communication). In a 30-minute 1-on-1, we can discuss everything that needs additional comments.

Update it weekly! Keep it async. On the sync meetings, discuss only essential topics. 

If you don't have any new learnings, rethink what you do :)
