We used push notifications for various reasons, mostly for engagement and retention (and awareness, too). For engagement, we used to send grade-wise notifications for our users i.e. Grade 1 users will receive a notification of Grade 1 videos/tests.

For retention, we send reminders for our inactive users (7 days since last active, 14 days since last active, and 30 days since last active).

To create the dashboard, I used several systems. Firebase raw events data gets populated in Bigquery. So at first, I created a table in Bigquery for Firebase notifications (open and receive). Then I linked that table to Power BI for creating the dashboard.

We wanted to see what makes users convert (open app). So we developed these various push notifications to drive engagement, sent the different types of notifications, and measured their open rates. From there we were able to plan our notification strategy.

Our growth team, PMs, data analysts, sales team, and content team all used the dashboard (these were the teams who sent notifications).

Some key outcomes included:

The growth team was able to see how engagement/retention (Videos and Test type) notifications are performing.

The sales team was mostly sending the notifications for Surveys. So they were able to see the open rates.

PMs were able to see the overall user behavior of notifications and how it correlates with other user activity within the app.
