While creating this widget I was driven by a desire to create a more systematic, transparent, and goal-oriented approach to managing our Product Owners' career path. It addresses challenges related to skills assessment, growth tracking, and career development while promoting collaboration and openness. Product Owner Skill Chart is an interactive Figma Widget, and Maksim is an expert FE engineer who helped me with the coding part of the widget.

Product Owners had mixed feelings initially. Some of them appreciated the effort to provide clarity and structure to their career growth, while others felt overwhelmed by the breadth of skills presented. Those who are proactive about their growth embrace the artifact as a tool to reflect and define the skills required for progression, enabling them to understand what's needed to reach the next level.

You should recognize that the artifact may and will need to evolve over time. As industry trends and organizational goals change, the skill framework needs to be adapted to remain relevant

The hardest part was to define the skill categories and the skills within. The Product Owner role has a multifaceted nature, it encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, from strategic thinking and user empathy to technical understanding and beyond. This diversity makes it difficult to categorize skills under neat headings.
