Gil Readme
Hello, if you are reading this you are most likely going to be working with me 😀. I have written this document to briefly introduce myself and how I like to work. First things first, my name is Gil (often mispronounced Jiiillllll), I am more than happy with most nicknames (Gilly, Gilbert, Gilligan's island, etc). Come up with one I haven’t heard before and I will be impressed 😉.
I have experience as a product manager at both small and large companies. I like to think this experience has given me the best of both worlds. More info about my career.
As a product manager I believe my job is to efficiently drive key business objectives. This is achieved by developing an intricate understanding of our customers, the competitive landscape and our tech capabilities. None of this can be done in a silo and that’s why I will work closely with many of you to help us achieve our mission.
I am a customer centric PM. A key part of my product philosophy involves regularly speaking with our customers. I try to keep the voice of the customer at the forefront of everything I do and expect my peers to do the same. (PS watch out for some invites as I will probably invite you to some customer calls).
I love forming high performing teams. No two teams are the same so I will work with you to create collaborative and open environments.
Working hard is important but so is having fun…. I work hard but I find time everyday to see the lighter side in what we are doing. Work is a lot easier if you enjoy what you do and who you do it with.
I am often wrong. We all come from diverse backgrounds and have unique skill sets. We are a team and if I only hear my own voice I know something is wrong. I want to hear your point of view. It will help us get better outcomes.
I am a direct person. I call a spade a spade and prefer not to beat around the bush. I appreciate when the same is reciprocated (please challenge me!).
Finally, I seek feedback. I am always trying to improve my trade. I believe that feedback is a key ingredient to do this, so I appreciate feedback whenever, wherever and about whatever. Whether you choose to give me feedback or not, you can rest assured I will attempt to solicit it from you 🙃.
