Career Leveling
Individual Contributor Track
Skills continue to develop as level increases, have a similar bar at and above certain levels, and aren’t expected before a certain level. As an individual contributor, the product designer is responsible for their own work and is not a manager or team leader. They are expected to work independently to solve design challenges and deliver high-quality designs that meet the needs of the user and the product.
Competencies
As someone progresses through levels, their area of ownership will grow in scope and they will become more independent in managing their area. Associate Product Designers (Level 1) start off with specific features or small projects and require help both with prioritization and with specification creation and execution, whereas Senior Product Designers (Level 3) will be managing a large area (i.e. mapped to another internal department) that includes multiple teams and be able to do so without much help beyond guidance on overall company prioritization.
