I utilize the 30:60:90 plan for individuals who are new to PM'ing. Whether I'm working with young APMs or those transitioning from another team (for example, Customer Experience), I find it valuable to outline the expected progression of their learning. I believe it aids in mitigating the sense of overwhelm that newcomers may experience. The plan serves as a blueprint upon which we collaboratively build. Some may require more or less time for specific tasks, while others may wish to incorporate their own elements. Revisiting this list during our 1:1 meetings helps us fine-tune and identify ways in which I can assist in the process.

Each of these stages presents its own set of challenges, particularly for junior PMs. Learning a new team's processes and tools can be challenging. Identifying which research to prioritize and determining initial actions are common challenges during the first 30 days.

When it comes to Ownership and Leadership, PMs need to strike a healthy balance between allowing the team to execute their plan and questioning (even pushing back on) proposed work. A new PM might feel compelled to follow the work outlined by the previous PM; however, it is never too early to ask questions and validate the work's value.

Strategy & Vision ties everything together. The PM must possess a deep understanding of user problems, product-market fit, prior research, current data, and company goals. The challenge at this stage is synthesizing this information and presenting it in a compelling and clear manner. This is where being a good storyteller becomes even more crucial.
